School Council

Our school council at Balshaw Lane Community Primary School is made up of two or three representatives from each class from years 1 to 6. The children are selected by an annual vote by their classmates. We believe that this aims to support the practice of democracy within our school environment. Our school councillors are good role models, listeners and communicators.

The school council typically meets twice every half-term where we discuss fundraising agendas or suggestions on how we can make Balshaw Lane a happier place. We think it is important that we listen to our classmate’s suggestions and make positive changes. We meet with the Ms. Gregson to discuss plans that can be put in place based on findings from the meetings.

Last year we:

  • held a ‘No Rules Day’ to raise funds for wet play equipment
  • supported fundraising for events/charities such as Red Nose Day
  • were involved in our local community

4th February 2022

Our School Councillors organised a brilliant assembly all about Mental Health. The children promoted our 'Break the Rules Day' to raise funds for a local mental health charity and help us raise funds for new wet play equipment. Well done!

11th February 2022

Today was our special 'Break the Rules Day'. We saw fancy dress, wacky hair styles and temporary tattoos galore! We raised over £500 which we will split to support a local mental health charity and to help us buy new wet play equipment. Thank you so much to our school community for all of your support!
