Attendance

“My child looks forward to going in to school.  He seems very happy at school.”

My child loves coming to school - never any issues not wanting to come!”

“Great school, great teachers - my son is very happy and loves going to school.”

Parents' Questionnaire comments, Autumn 2023.

At Balshaw Lane, we aim to have all our children attending school 100% of the time.

We recognise that they may sometimes be ill or have medical appointments.

Otherwise, we expect all children to be in school, on time.

Pre-covid, our attendance was consistently above national averages at 96+%.

2022-23   School 95% National 95%

Sept 2023 - Feb 2024 School 95% National 95%

We believe that our excellent attendance is due to the children loving coming to school to learn, due to our vibrant curriculum and strong relationships.

The governors do not authorise holidays in term time.

Penalty notices may apply to unauthorised absence: please see our Term Dates page for more information.

If children's attendance falls below 95%, we will discuss with parents how to support them.

Absence which falls below 90% is considered to be 'persistent absence' by the government.

This is very rare at Balshaw Lane and may be due to medical needs.

Support may be provided by the school nurse and/or the local authority attendance officer.
