“Our child likes coming to school and is happy here.”
“My child looks forward to attending and has built good relationships with teachers.”
“I have to say my child has loved going to school and hasn’t ever said that they didn’t want to go which to me says everything.”
Parents' Questionnaire comments, Autumn 2024.
At Balshaw Lane, we aim to have all our children attending school 100% of the time.
We recognise that they may sometimes be ill or have medical appointments.
Otherwise, we expect all children to be in school, on time.
2024-25 96.5% as of 29/10/24 (national 95.7%)
2023-24 95.3% (national 94.5%)
2022-23 95% (national 95%)
Pre-covid, our attendance was consistently above national averages at 96+%.
We believe that our excellent attendance is due to the children loving coming to school to learn, due to our vibrant curriculum and strong relationships.
The governors do not authorise holidays in term time.
Penalty notices may apply to unauthorised absence: please see our Term Dates page for more information.
If children's attendance falls below 95%, we will discuss with parents how to support them.
Absence which falls below 90% is considered to be 'persistent absence' by the government.
This is very rare at Balshaw Lane and may be due to medical needs.
Support may be provided by the school nurse and/or the local authority attendance officer.
